Today we are concluding our series on the life of David! He was a shepherd boy, a warrior, a king…and most importantly…a man after God’s own heart! We have learned much from studying his life! I thought it would be wise to conclude with a few of the attributes that helped David succeed! These attributes are necessary in all of our lives…especially as leaders. By the way…we are all leaders! We lead our friends, our families, and many of us are leaders in the church. Without these attributes…we will struggle to lead those that God has given us to lead! Struggling is not the worst part…what is worse? We will have diminished effectiveness, or we may be completely and totally ineffective. So, what are these attributes that we need to lead?

There will be times…when we step out in faith...and we will have much enthusiasm…but then…we will run into challenges…and trials…and we may feel like our adventure has come to an end! We may face a battle that feels overwhelming! Yet we must continue on! One of the ways we do that is by having the right people to stand with us! People like Shammah! In our adventure…there will come a time…when we will have a Shammah moment!

Today I want to help you understand that sometimes you will need to fight, so that your great and glorious adventure will continue! It will need to continue because God is not finished with you! David chose to fight Goliath! He was not satisfied with a victory over a lion and a bear! Those were amazing victories, but God was taking his adventure to whole new level! Blind spots will affect your family more than anyone else…but they will affect your friends, neighbors and co-workers! I want you to imagine…that in your walk with God…that everything seems like it is good! You are doing your best to walk with God…you are trying to be obedient and there is a definite sense of God’s blessing on your life! How many of you are there or have been there or hope to get there? Here is what usually happens…just when you are thinking you are doing well…everyone else sees the degrees! The areas in your life where you are not vigilant! The areas that you may be making excuses…the areas that you think are not that bad…the things you justify! Let’s …look at David’s life…once again!

Passage: 2 Samuel 13

We can have blind spots in our walk with God. We can be good in some areas and have other areas that are blind spots for us! We are blind to them. We can’t see the potential danger we are in! What may be a blind spot for us…may not be a blind spot for someone else! David was living and adventure! Guess what…part of his adventure…was affected by blind spots! David had a blind spot when it came to his family!

I encourage you to go back and read all of 2 Samuel chapters 11 and 12 so you can get the full story. One of the things that I love about the Bible is that it shows real people. This is a story about the shepherd boy that becomes king. David may have been the greatest king that Israel has ever known. The Bible says that David was a man after God’s own heart! What a statement! That is amazing! And…yet…the Bible also tells us about his blind spots! You see…you and I can have a heart that loves God…and we can still have blind spots. Blind spots do not keep God from using you…but they may limit your effectiveness! They will certainly affect your witness! Do you have any blind spots? Let look at one of the blind spots that David struggled with! The blind spot of temptation! David was tempted to sin…and sin he did!
